The Objective

The scientific journal editor proposes illustration services to authors who wish to publish in their peer-reviwed journal.
As scientific graphic designer, I then intervene to adapt the author's graphical abstract or figure to journal guidelines and style.

Journal style

Editor's guidelines focus on the format of the figure: 492 px x 343.35 px (formatted in picas).
The Avenir font is preferred and should not be smaller than 8 pt

Colors

Colors should be adapted for color-blind people: elements that need to be identified or differentiated need to be seen by at least the most common types of color blindness (Protanopia and Deuteranopia).
The idea behind this color palette was use pink for organs (which seems logical since it is close to most organs' natural color) but to use a very bold pink to modernize the representation (to compliment the organ representation as icon).

Second-dose VITT: rare but real

In the current issue of Blood, Krzywicka et al convincingly show for the first time, that vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (VITT) can occur after a second dose of the AstraZeneca/Oxford ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine.
